Crash claims life of Escanaba man
ESCANABA — An Escanaba man was killed Sunday in a two-vehicle crash that left portions of US-2 closed for nearly three hours.
At approximately 12:34 p.m. Sunday, deputies from the Delta County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the crash, which took place in the Bayview area between Escanaba and Gladstone. An initial investigation revealed a pickup truck, driven by 81-year-old Kenneth Arnold of Cornell, blew a tire, causing the vehicle to cross the median into oncoming traffic. The truck then struck another pickup truck driven by 55-year-old Michael Englund of Escanaba, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Arnold was transported to UP Health Systems Marquette by Guardian Flight.
Following the crash, the road was closed to southbound traffic. The highway was progressively re-opened with full use of the highway restored by 3:30 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation. Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police, Gladstone Public Safety, Escanaba Public Safety, the Escanaba Township Fire Department, the Gladstone Fire Department, Rampart EMS, Guardian Flight, Pro Towing and Gene’s Towing.
