ESCANABA — The cause of a house fire in Escanaba two days before Christmas is still under investigation, but it is believed the fire was started by an electrical issue on the building’s second floor.

Escanaba Public Safety responded to the fire at 226 North 18th St. shortly before 10:30 a.m. Friday morning on a report of a house fire. When officers arrived at the scene, they witness flames coming out of an upstairs window and heavy smoke. Attack lines were deployed and the fire was eventually extinguished.

The upstairs of the house and the home’s attic sustained most of the fire damage. The lower levels were damaged by smoke and water.

No injuries were reported.

Escanaba Public Safety was assisted by Delta County Central Dispatch Center, Ford River Township Volunteer Fire Department, the Michigan State Police, and Rampart EMS.
