Voters decide state, local races

ESCANABA — National state and local races were decided during Tuesday’s General Election. In Delta County, voter turnout was 54.14 percent of registered votes — 17,480 people, according to the Delta County Clerks Office.

The races include:

DELTA COUNTY PROSECUTOR

Acting Delta County Prosecutor Lauren Wickman received 10,926 votes. She easily defeated challenger Diane Kay-Hougaboom, who received 4,165 votes.

U.S. HOUSE

Incumbent Republican Jack Bergman defeated challenger Bob Lorinser. Bergman received 219,463 votes district-wide to Lorinser’s 136,078. In Delta County Bergman got 10,984 votes and Lorinser 5,856.

STATE SENATE

Incumbent Republican Ed McBroom defeated challenger Democrat John Braamse 73,004 – 43,210 in district-wide voting. In Delta County McBroom also won the race in a 11,960 – 5,088 vote.

STATE HOUSE

Republican David Prestin won a seat in the Michigan House of Representatives in a contest with Democrat Chris Lopez. District-wide the vote tally was 23,553 – 12,390. In Delta County Prestin also came out on top in a 10,724 – 6,061 vote.

SCHOOLCRAFT COUNTY

SCHOOLCRAFT COUNTY ROAD COMMISSION

Keith Rochefort defeated Dale J. Dufour for a seat on the Schoolcraft County Road Commission in a 1,994 – 1,895 vote.

SCHOOLCRAFT COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

Republican Craig A. Reiter defeated Democrat Alan Kilner 585 – 301 in the District 1 county board race.

Republican Allan Ott defeated Donna K. Swisher for the county board seat representing District 2. The vote was 457 – 113.

Republican Troy Basset (District 3), Republican Paul Walker (District 4), and Republican Daniel P. Hoholik (District 5) all ran unopposed.
