COVID cases decline locally, 1 new death
ESCANABA — Local COVID-19 data Tuesday showed a death blamed on the virus in Delta County, even as the number of new confirmed positives declined for the week.
Delta County on Tuesday reported 18 confirmed positives since Oct. 17, down five from the previous week, while Menominee County had 23, up 20 for the eight-day period, according to figures posted on the Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website Tuesday. Delta County also had 46 probable cases and Menominee County 18 probable since Oct. 17.
The PHDM website Tuesday had Delta County at 8,748 confirmed positives, 2,985 probable cases and 166 deaths since the pandemic began. Menominee County has had 4,533 confirmed positives, 2,076 probable and 70 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.
On the state level, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Tuesday added 221 confirmed positives since Oct. 18 to the Upper Peninsula’s tally: 39 in Houghton County, 36 in Marquette County, 30 in Gogebic County, 25 in Dickinson County, 21 in Menominee County, 16 in Delta County, 12 in Chippewa County, 10 in Iron County, nine in Baraga County, six in Alger and Mackinac counties, five in Schoolcraft County, four in Ontonagon County and two in Keweenaw County.
The state recorded eight more virus-related deaths in the Upper Peninsula for the week: two each in Menominee and Marquette counties and one each in Dickinson, Iron, Baraga and Mackinac counties.
Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 60,399 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 928 deaths since pandemic tracking began in March 2020.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 568 confirmed cases and 67 probable, and 14 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 758 confirmed cases and 864 probable, 15 confirmed deaths and two probable deaths; Ontonagon County, 1,113 confirmed, 128 probable and 40 deaths, three probable; Alger County, 1,230 confirmed, 805 probable and eight deaths, eight probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,282 confirmed cases and 807 probable, 14 deaths and four probable; Mackinac County, 1,907 confirmed cases and 960 probable, 32 deaths and four probable; Baraga County, 1,991 confirmed cases, 428 probable and 56 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,951 confirmed cases and 392 probable, 81 deaths and 17 probable; Gogebic County, 3,356 confirmed cases and 619 probable, 43 deaths and 31 probable; Chippewa County, 4,030 confirmed cases and 5,884 probable, and 93 deaths, 18 probable; Menominee County, 4,524 confirmed cases, 2,068 probable and 65 deaths, 13 probable; Dickinson County, 5,809 confirmed cases and 2,923 probable, 95 deaths and 24 probable; Houghton County, 7,924 confirmed cases, 1,217 probable, 92 deaths and 12 probable; Delta County, 8,737 confirmed cases and 2,975 probable, 139 deaths and 28 probable; and Marquette County, 14,219 confirmed cases, 3,889 probable and 141 deaths, 16 probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Tuesday had 12,167 new confirmed and probable coronavirus positives in Michigan since Oct. 18, or an average of about 1,738 cases per day for the week, for a total of 2,886,176 cases since COVID tracking began. The state for that time period added 158 confirmed and probable deaths attributed to the virus to reach 39,250.
