GLADSTONE -- It has been reported to the Steam Engine #730 Authority that an individual has been attempting to solicit money from area residents, claiming to be collecting money for the restoration of the steam engine located in Gladstone. According to John Pickard, chairman of the fundraiser committee, the individual is not authorized to collect funds for the project.
"Bad actors who impersonate the Soo Line Engine #730 Fundraiser prey upon the goodwill and generosity of donors in our community," said Pickard. "Only the city of Gladstone receives donations or myself.
"Using high pressure tactics to scam the good citizens to compel a donation on the spot, these bad actors intend to leave no time for the unknowing citizen to decide before agreeing to donate. We as a committee are not going door to door for donations," Pickard added.
