Parade marchers collecting school supplies in Esky
ESCANABA — Members of the Michigan Education Association (MEA) will be marching, along with other unions, in the 2nd Annual Labor Day parade in Escanaba on Monday, September 6. Area educators will be collecting school supplies along the parade route. Parade-goers are encouraged to bring a new school supply to help MEA members’ efforts to fill backpacks which will subsequently be donated to local kids in need. Watch for the MEA contingent during the parade. They will have signage and backpacks and happily pick up the items along the way. MEA will also have a table at the Municipal Dock at which additional school supplies can be left following the parade. The MEA is Michigan’s largest public employee union and its members include local teachers, para-educators, bus drivers, aides, custodians, school office personnel, maintenance workers, food service employees, school nurses, transportation directors, counselors, and social workers. The Local 17B Council is organizing this year’s school supply drive and parade participation.
