COVID cases declining in Delta County

ESCANABA — Local data showed COVID-19 activity continuing to decline in Delta County, while Menominee County’s numbers stayed relatively steady.
Delta County recorded 18 confirmed positives since Sept. 21, 10 fewer than a week ago, and Menominee County 14, down three from the previous week, according to figures posted on the Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website Tuesday. Delta County also had 27 probable cases and Menominee County five probables in that six-day span. Neither county reported a virus-related death.
The PHDM website Tuesday had Delta County at 8,639 confirmed positives, 2,806 probable cases and 165 deaths since the pandemic began. Menominee County has had 4,460 confirmed positives, 2,004 probables and 68 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.
On the state level, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Tuesday added 214 confirmed positives since Sept. 20 to the Upper Peninsula’s tally: 42 in Marquette County; 31 in Houghton County; 23 in Delta County; 20 in Menominee, Dickinson and Gogebic counties; 14 in Chippewa County; 13 in Iron County; 10 in Alger County; six in Luce County; four in Baraga and Mackinac counties; three in Ontonagon County; and two in Schoolcraft and Keweenaw counties.
New virus-related deaths in the Upper Peninsula for the week included two in Iron County and one in Keweenaw, Luce and Mackinac counties.
Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 59,498 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 911 deaths since pandemic tracking began in March 2020.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 561 confirmed cases and 64 probable, and 14 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 755 confirmed cases and 860 probable, 15 confirmed deaths and two probable deaths; Ontonagon County, 1,086 confirmed, 126 probable and 40 deaths, three probable; Alger County, 1,214 confirmed, 797 probable and eight deaths, seven probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,252 confirmed cases and 795 probable, 14 deaths and four probable; Mackinac County, 1,867 confirmed cases and 956 probable, 31 deaths and four probable; Baraga County, 1,954 confirmed cases, 402 probable and 55 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,904 confirmed cases and 389 probable, 76 deaths and 17 probable; Gogebic County, 3,264 confirmed cases and 606 probable, 43 deaths and 31 probable; Chippewa County, 3,963 confirmed cases and 5,781 probable, and 91 deaths, 17 probable; Menominee County, 4,451 confirmed cases, 1,996 probable and 62 deaths, 12 probable; Dickinson County, 5,757 confirmed cases and 2,871 probable, 94 deaths and 24 probable; Houghton County, 7,808 confirmed cases, 1,206 probable, 92 deaths and 12 probable; Delta County, 8,628 confirmed cases and 2,796 probable, 139 deaths and 27 probable; and Marquette County, 14,034 confirmed cases, 3,805 probable and 137 deaths, 14 probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Tuesday had 14,678 new confirmed and probable coronavirus positives in Michigan since Sept. 20, or an average of about 2,097 cases per day for the week, for a total of 2,836,167 cases since COVID tracking began. The state for that time period added 160 confirmed and probable deaths attributed to the virus to reach 38,624.
