COVID-19 cases climb locally

ESCANABA — Local data showed Menominee County with 36 and Delta County 28 new confirmed COVID-19 positives since Aug. 22.

Delta County, however, also had 71 probable cases and Menominee County 20 probables in that eight-day period, according to figures posted Tuesday on the Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website Tuesday. Neither county reported a new virus-related death.

The PHDM website Tuesday had Delta County at 8,537 confirmed positives, 2,655 probable cases and 163 deaths since the pandemic began. Menominee County has had 4,378 confirmed positives, 1,962 probables and 68 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and

probable.

State data Tuesday recorded a new death blamed on coronavirus in Schoolcraft County.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Tuesday added 363 confirmed positives since Aug. 23 to the Upper Peninsula’s tally: 69 in Iron County, 60 in Marquette County, 53 in Dickinson County, 37 in Houghton County, 28 in Menominee County, 24 in Delta County, 19 in Mackinac County, 18 in Chippewa County, 11 in Schoolcraft County, 10 in Gogebic and Baraga counties, eight in Ontonagon County, seven in Alger County, six in Luce County and three in Keweenaw County. The state listed a new virus-related death in Baraga, Marquette and Ontonagon counties as well as Schoolcraft.

Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 58,476 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 892 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 549 confirmed cases and 61 probable, and 12 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 736 confirmed cases and 860 probable, 14 confirmed deaths and two probable deaths; Ontonagon County, 1,063 confirmed, 123 probable and 38 deaths, three probable; Alger County, 1,185 confirmed, 776 probable and eight deaths, seven probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,215 confirmed cases and 779 probable, 14 deaths and three probable; Mackinac County, 1,835 confirmed cases and 942 probable, 29 deaths and four probable; Baraga County, 1,943 confirmed cases, 392 probable and 55 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,795 confirmed cases and 375 probable, 71 deaths and 17 probable; Gogebic County, 3,211 confirmed cases and 593 probable, 42 deaths and 31 probable; Chippewa County, 3,890 confirmed cases and 5,636 probable, and 91 deaths, 17 probable; Menominee County, 4,368 confirmed cases, 1,954 probable and 62 deaths, 12 probable; Dickinson County, 5,609 confirmed cases and 2,767 probable, 93 deaths and 23 probable; Houghton County, 7,692 confirmed cases, 1,200 probable, 91 deaths and 12 probable; Delta County, 8,526 confirmed cases and 2,643 probable, 137 deaths and 27 probable; and Marquette County, 13,859 confirmed cases, 3,693 probable and 135 deaths, 14 probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Tuesday had 19,158 new confirmed and probable coronavirus positives in Michigan since Aug. 23, or an average of about 2,737 cases per day for the week, for a total of 2,770,359 cases since COVID tracking began. The state for that time period added 129 confirmed and probable deaths attributed to the virus to reach 38,038.
