ISLE ROYALE — A 6-acre fire that started on Isle Royale National Park earlier this month is now 100% contained.
The National Park Service announced that Minnesota wildland fire crews departed from the Mount Franklin fire on Sunday.
The crew had been there since Aug. 14.
According to the NPS, an incident commander from the Hiawatha National Forest continues to monitor the burn area.
All impacted trails, campgrounds and docks are open. The cross-country camping zones impacted by the fire remain closed.
Hazards may still exist, according to NPS.
“If hiking through the burn area, stay on the trail for your safety,” the press release said. “Rock cairns are in place on the Mount Franklin Trail to guide hikers through the burn area.”
A Mount Franklin Fire Fact list on the NPS website provides detailed information to hikers.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Officials are looking for information on an illegal fire and camp on the Mount Franklin Trail on the evening of Aug.12 and morning of Aug. 13.
