Shortly after noon Tuesday, firefighters were called to home in Wells Township that was fully engulfed in flames. The home, which was located at 6369 S. 2nd St., was too far from a hydrant for firefighters to connect to directly, forcing the fire departments fighting the blaze to run trucks back and forth between the nearest hydrant and a holding tank. Organizations responding to the fire included Escanaba Public Safety, DTE Energy, Michigan State Police, Rampart EMS, the Delta County Sheriff’s Department, Escanaba Township Fire Department, UPPCO, Delta County Road Commission, and the Red Cross.
