Arrests made after man barricades in home

MENOMINEE TOWNSHIP — Two people have been arrested after a man barricaded himself inside a Menominee Township home.

On Thursday, Aug. 4, at approximately 7:22 a.m., the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office and Menominee City Police Department were dispatched to W6122 18th Avenue in Menominee Township for a report of domestic assault and the brandishing of a firearm.

Upon arrival on scene, officers were alerted that a male subject, armed with a handgun, had barricaded himself inside the residence after pointing the firearm at another individual. Law enforcement officers established a perimeter around the residence while a Menominee County Sheriff’s Office negotiator attempted to contact the individual to request a peaceful surrender. Neighboring residents were advised of the situation and had the option to evacuate or shelter in place.

The suspect refused the negotiator’s request, leading to the deployment of additional resources from the Marinette County Special Response Team, the Marinette Police Department Tactical Response Unit, and the Menominee Police Department Robotics Unit.

Negotiations continued into the afternoon, but the suspect’s repeated failure to comply with law enforcement prompted the tactical units to deploy OC gas into the residence. The suspect exited the home unarmed, and was taken into custody.

A female subject was also apprehended in connection to this incident. Both subjects are currently lodged in the Menominee County Jail, pending arraignment.

The Menominee County Sheriff’s Office detectives, negotiator team, and deputies were assisted by the Menominee City Police, including K9 and Robotics Units; Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and Special Response Team; Marinette City Police and Tactical Response Unit; the Michigan State Police; Menominee County Central Dispatch, and Aurora Bay Area Paramedics.
