COVID-19 cases rising in Delta County

ESCANABA — Local data Tuesday showed area COVID-19 activity back on the rise, with Delta County reporting 33 new confirmed coronavirus positives and Menominee County 26 since July 5.

Probable cases were up as well: Delta County had 47, Menominee County 22, according to figures posted on the Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website Tuesday. Neither county had a virus-related death in the seven-day span.

The PHDM website Tuesday had Delta County at 8,312 confirmed positives, 2,390 probable cases and 161 deaths since the pandemic began. Menominee County has had 4,187 confirmed positives, 1,807 probables and 66 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.

On the state level, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Tuesday added 389 confirmed positives since July 5 — 151 more than the previous week — to the Upper Peninsula’s tally: 84 in Marquette County; 73 in Houghton County; 55 in Gogebic County; 33 in Delta County; 31 in Dickinson County; 26 in Iron and Menominee counties; 14 in Baraga County; 11 in Chippewa County; seven in Keweenaw, Schoolcraft, Ontonagon, Mackinac and Alger counties; and one in Luce County.

The state had one new virus-related death in Marquette, Gogebic and Luce counties.

Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 55,525 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 868 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 512 confirmed cases and 58 probable, and 12 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 691 confirmed cases and 836 probable, 14 confirmed deaths and two probable deaths; Ontonagon County, 967 confirmed, 113 probable and 37 deaths, three probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,119 confirmed cases and 760 probable, 13 deaths and three probable; Alger County, 1,124 confirmed, 724 probable and eight deaths, six probable; Mackinac County, 1,757 confirmed cases and 911 probable, 28 deaths and three probable; Baraga County, 1,843 confirmed cases, 350 probable and 53 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,514 confirmed cases and 354 probable, 71 deaths and 17 probable; Gogebic County, 3,033 confirmed cases and 552 probable, 41 deaths and 30 probable; Chippewa County, 3,744 confirmed cases and 5,426 probable, and 88 deaths, 17 probable; Menominee County, 4,179 confirmed cases, 1,797 probable and 61 deaths, 11 probable; Dickinson County, 5,281 confirmed cases and 2,552 probable, 91 deaths and 22 probable; Houghton County, 7,267 confirmed cases, 1,167 probable, 87 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 8,301 confirmed cases and 2,379 probable, 136 deaths and 25 probable; and Marquette County, 13,193 confirmed cases, 3,405 probable and 128 deaths, 11 probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Tuesday had 16,681 new confirmed and probable coronavirus positives in Michigan since July 5, or an average of about 2,383 cases per day for the week, for a total of 2,636,214 cases since COVID tracking began. The state for that time period added 160 confirmed and probable deaths attributed to the virus to reach 37,142.
