Counterfeit currency being passed locally

HARRIS — The Hannahville Police Department is warning area residents about an increase in counterfeit currency. The department has seen an increase in individuals passing the counterfeit currency in local businesses. The bills are marked “FOR MOTION PICTURE PURPOSES,” suggesting the money was intended to serve as a realistic prop.

“Subjects attempting to pass, passing, or conspiring to pass, will be referred to the appropriate court for prosecution, including the United States Secret Service,” the department said in a Facebook post.

Everyone is encouraged to examine any paper money prior to accepting it from an individual or business. Should you or someone you know be in possession of one of these bills, the Hannahville Police Department says you should report it to your local law enforcement agency immediately and turn it in for proper destruction.
