COVID-19 death reported locally

ESCANABA — COVID-19 activity continued to trend downward in the region and state in the past week based on reported cases, with local data Wednesday showing Delta County with 35 new confirmed positives and Menominee County 12 cases — but another virus-related death as well.

Delta County also had 30 probable cases and Menominee County 11 probables since May 26, according to figures listed on the Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website Wednesday.

The PHDM website Wednesday had Delta County at 8,099 confirmed positives, 2,199 probable cases and 158 deaths since the pandemic began. Menominee County has had 4,062 confirmed positives, 1,741 probables and 65 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.

On the state level, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday added 351 confirmed positives to the Upper Peninsula’s tally since May 25: 100 in Marquette County, 39 in Delta County, 35 in Houghton County, 30 in Dickinson and Baraga counties, 27 in Chippewa County, 22 in Iron County, 17 in Mackinac County, 15 in Menominee County, 12 in Ontonagon County, 11 in Gogebic County, five in Alger County, and four in Keweenaw and Luce counties. The state recorded two virus-related deaths in Houghton County and one each in Delta, Menominee, Marquette and Ontonagon counties; Chippewa County’s toll was reduced by one.

Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 53,693 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 849 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 485 confirmed cases and 57 probable, and 13 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 674 confirmed cases and 805 probable, 12 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 926 confirmed, 110 probable and 36 deaths, three probable; Alger County, 1,094 confirmed, 674 probable and eight deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,096 confirmed cases and 725 probable, 13 deaths and three probable; Mackinac County, 1,700 confirmed cases and 882 probable, 28 deaths and three probable; Baraga County, 1,785 confirmed cases, 329 probable and 52 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,382 confirmed cases and 342 probable, 71 deaths and 17 probable; Gogebic County, 2,825 confirmed cases and 542 probable, 40 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 3,658 confirmed cases and 5,315 probable, and 86 deaths, 17 probable; Menominee County, 4,054 confirmed cases, 1,734 probable and 61 deaths, 10 probable; Dickinson County, 5,143 confirmed cases and 2,475 probable, 88 deaths and 22 probable; Houghton County, 7,003 confirmed cases, 1,126 probable, 84 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 8,086 confirmed cases and 2,189 probable, 134 deaths and 24 probable; and Marquette County, 12,782 confirmed cases, 3,258 probable and 123 deaths, 11 probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Wednesday had 19,535 new confirmed and probable coronavirus positives in Michigan since May 25, or an average of about 2,791 cases per day for the week’s span, for a total of 2,547,366 cases since COVID tracking began. The state for the week added 50 confirmed and probable deaths attributed to the virus to reach 36,407.
