Bark River to celebrate 150 years

BARK RIVER — The Bark River area will be celebrating its sesquicentennial (150 years) in a grand way on July 2, 3 and 4.

Three days of events are being planned. Saturday, July 2 will be Bark River-Harris All Class Reunion Day beginning with a golf outing in the morning, an open house at the Bark River-Harris School in the afternoon, and an evening All Class Reunion at the park in Bark River. Sunday, July 3, is designated as Sesquicentennial Day at the park in Bark River beginning with an Ecumenical church service, fiddler performance, Great Lakes Timber Show, 1871 family games, baseball game, and music in the park. Monday, July 4 will be Bark River’s Annual 4th of July Celebration with a parade and festivities at the park.

During the three-day event, food and refreshments will be available for purchase. The History Room will also be open at the Bark River Senior Center for all three days. Anyone who is interested in contributing a display for the History Room should contact Kelly Hanson at 906-241-4686 or e-mail kellyjeanhanson@hotmail.com.

“Our History Room this past summer was a huge success, we are hoping for an even bigger and better one for 2022 with everyone’s contribution,” organizers said.

The Sesquicentennial Committee has several projects they worked on with the community’s help — a history book, a sesquicentennial cookbook, and a sesquicentennial quilt. The sesquicentennial quilt and a sesquicentennial time capsule will be on display at the Bark River Senior Center. The sesquicentennial history book, sesquicentennial cookbook, along with sesquicentennial T-shirts will all be available for purchase at the three-day event.

The group’s next meeting is Tuesday, May 31 at 7 p.m. at the Bark River Senior Center. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Starting at $3.50/week.
