ESCANABA — Four individuals were recently sentenced on unrelated drug charges in Delta County.

The charge stems from a Michigan State Police traffic stop on a vehicle near the airport in the city of Escanaba on March 25, 2021. The driver initially gave a false name to officers, but was later identified as Elvetici.
Several needles, as well as an unknown white powder were observed during the contact with Elvetici. Troopers had Elvetici perform standard field sobriety evaluations, and he ultimately underwent a blood draw at OSF St Francis Hospital. A subsequent test of the blood sample by Michigan State Police Forensic Lab located fentanyl. A test of the white substance revealed the substance to be aspirin.

Michigan State Police were assisting the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team in a drug investigation in the city of Escanaba on May 20, 2020, when Bichler was seen in suspected drug activity at a local hotel.
Bichler left the hotel parking lot in a vehicle, and was subsequently stopped by Michigan State Police. A Michigan State Police K9 conducted an exterior search of the vehicle and alerted to the presence of narcotics. A search of the vehicle located a crystal-like substance in the vehicle.
A subsequent test of the crystal-like substance by the Michigan State Police Forensic Lab revealed the presence of methamphetamine.
On April 7, 2021, a Delta County Sheriff’s Office deputy located Bichler in the city of Escanaba. The deputy attempted to arrest Bichler on the warrant from the May 2020 incident, but Bichler attempted to get away, spinning out of the deputy’s grasp and trying to run away. The deputy was able to regain control of Bichler and placed her in custody.
Angela Crystal-Marie Johnson, 42, of Marquette was sentenced to 12 months in the Delta County Jail on Jan. 13, following the entry of a guilty plea to Possession of Methamphetamine — punishable by up to 10 years in prison — and three counts of Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing a Police Officer.

On June 9, 2021, Michigan State Troopers responded to a report of an unwanted female that appeared under the influence. Officers located Johnson at the residence, where she appeared to be under the influence and admitted to consuming large amounts of hard liquor, and shooting up methamphetamine and heroin. Johnson gave one of the Troopers a baggie with a small amount of suspected methamphetamine in it.
As officers were attempting to place her under arrest, Johnson lunged at one of the Delta County Sheriff’s Deputies assisting. She was eventually placed in cuffs and taken to be medically evaluated by Rampart EMS. While being examined, Johnson kicked at one of the paramedics twice, and one of the troopers when he attempted to intervene. Johnson was transported to OSF St Francis Hospital. While there, troopers attempted to speak with Johnson, but she pulled out her IV and began to fling blood at the troopers, hitting one with blood.
A test of the suspected methamphetamine conducted by the Michigan State Police Forensic lab confirmed the substance to be methamphetamine. Michigan State Police was assisted in their investigation by Delta County Sheriff’s Office and Rampart EMS.
