Two rescued after falling through ice

GLADSTONE — Two people were rescued Friday afternoon after going through the ice at Saunders Point.

The Ensign Fire Department, along with Delta County Search and Rescue, were called at 12:17 p.m. after a report of an ATV and snowmobile going through the ice in the Saunders Point area off of the city of Gladstone. The two people were able to get out of the icy water, but did not want to move from the unstable ice.

Ensign Fire Department, along with Delta County Search and Rescue, were able to get the pair back to shore at 12:34 p.m.

Pro Towing was called to retrieve the AVT, which was completely submerged.

Rampart EMS was called to the scene, but the pair sought their own treatment. No further details were able.

The Saunders Point area traditionally has unstable ice and is considered a dangerous spot to venture into.

The public is reminded if you do decide to go on the ice to always tell someone where you are going and when you will return. Wear a personal flotation device, carry ice picks, and put your phone in a waterproof container. If you do get into trouble, call 911.
