Two COVID deaths in Delta County, 17 new cases

ESCANABA — Local data Wednesday showed Menominee County had more new confirmed COVID-19 cases in the past five days at 24 than Delta County with 17, though Delta added two deaths blamed on the virus.

Menominee County also had eight probable virus cases and Delta County five probables since Friday, according to the Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website Wednesday.

The PHDM on Wednesday had Delta County at 7,829 confirmed positives, 2,036 probable cases and 153 deaths since the pandemic began. Menominee County has had 3,846 confirmed positives, 1,682 probables and 63 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.

On the state level, figures on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday indicated 205 new confirmed positives in the Upper Peninsula since Friday: 56 in Marquette County, 26 in Menominee County, 20 in Chippewa County, 16 in Delta County, 14 in Houghton County, 12 in Mackinac County, 11 in Dickinson and Baraga counties, nine in Schoolcraft and Gogebic counties, seven in Iron and Alger counties, four in Luce County, two in Keweenaw County and one in Ontonagon County. The state posted 10 more virus-related deaths in the region: two in both Delta and Marquette counties, one each in Menominee, Dickinson, Iron, Keweenaw, Ontonagon and Gogebic counties.

Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 50,507 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 795 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 450 confirmed cases and 53 probable, and 12 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 645 confirmed cases and 756 probable, eight confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 862 confirmed, 104 probable and 34 deaths, two probable; Alger County, 1,026 confirmed, 658 probable and eight deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,070 confirmed cases and 662 probable, 11 deaths and two probable; Mackinac County, 1,515 confirmed cases and 834 probable, 26 deaths and two probable; Baraga County, 1,694 confirmed cases, 317 probable and 51 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,284 confirmed cases and 336 probable, 69 deaths and 14 probable; Gogebic County, 2,701 confirmed cases and 524 probable, 38 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 3,304 confirmed cases and 4,985 probable, and 78 deaths, 16 probable; Menominee County, 3,842 confirmed cases, 1,678 probable and 60 deaths, nine probable; Dickinson County, 4,959 confirmed cases and 2,370 probable, 85 deaths and 21 probable; Houghton County, 6,595 confirmed cases, 1,075 probable, 77 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 7,820 confirmed cases and 2,030 probable, 129 deaths and 24 probable; and Marquette County, 11,740 confirmed cases, 3,016 probable and 109 deaths, nine probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Wednesday had 5,931 new confirmed coronavirus positives in Michigan since Friday, or an average of about 1,186 per day for the five-day period, for a total to date of 2,051,771. The state since Friday added 312 deaths attributed to the virus — including 250 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 31,383.

The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, but did not update its figures Monday due to the Presidents’ Day holiday.
