Three new COVID-19 deaths in Delta County
ESCANABA — Local data Friday showed Delta County recorded three more deaths blamed on COVID-19 in the past two days, along with 51 new confirmed positives.
Delta County also had 14 probable virus cases since Wednesday, according to the Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website Friday.
Menominee County added 16 confirmed new cases and 25 probables in the two-day period.
The PHDM on Friday had Delta County at 7,619 confirmed positives, 1,973 probable cases and 147 deaths since the pandemic began. Menominee County has had 3,723 confirmed positives, 1,636 probables and 63 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.
On the state level, figures on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Friday indicated COVID’s spread continues to slow, with 348 new confirmed positives in the Upper Peninsula since Wednesday: 72 in Marquette County, 57 in Dickinson County, 50 in Delta County, 35 in Houghton County, 29 in Chippewa County, 24 in Iron County, 20 in Gogebic County, 15 in Menominee and Baraga counties, 11 in Schoolcraft County, seven in Mackinac County, four in Alger and Luce counties, three in Ontonagon County and two in Keweenaw County. The state listed nine more virus-related deaths: Two each in Delta and Mackinac counties; one each in Dickinson, Marquette, Gogebic, Houghton and Chippewa counties.
Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 48,968 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 757 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Friday had Keweenaw County at 438 confirmed cases and 51 probable, and 11 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 627 confirmed cases and 725 probable, seven confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 836 confirmed, 99 probable and 32 deaths, two probable; Alger County, 997 confirmed, 647 probable and seven deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,034 confirmed cases and 619 probable, 11 deaths and two probable; Mackinac County, 1,464 confirmed cases and 814 probable, 26 deaths and two probable; Baraga County, 1,652 confirmed cases, 307 probable and 50 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,215 confirmed cases and 325 probable, 66 deaths and 13 probable; Gogebic County, 2,641 confirmed cases and 513 probable, 36 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 3,146 confirmed cases and 4,798 probable, and 72 deaths, 14 probable; Menominee County, 3,714 confirmed cases, 1,631 probable and 59 deaths, nine probable; Dickinson County, 4,828 confirmed cases and 2,308 probable, 81 deaths and 19 probable; Houghton County, 6,447 confirmed cases, 1,062 probable, 73 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 7,606 confirmed cases and 1,967 probable, 123 deaths and 25 probable; and Marquette County, 11,323 confirmed cases, 2,953 probable and 103 deaths, eight probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Friday had 9,805 new confirmed coronavirus positives in Michigan since Wednesday, or an average of about 4,903 per day for the two-day period, for a total to date of 2,009,221. The state since Wednesday added 209 deaths attributed to the virus — including 155 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 30,379.
