ESCANABA — A garage and vehicle were destroyed in a fire early Wednesday morning, Escanaba Public Safety officers said.

Officers were called to 312 S. 7th St. at 2:42 a.m. after a report a detached garage was on fire. When officers arrived the garage had already collapsed onto the vehicle parked inside, all of which were fully engulfed in flames. Officers remained on scene for approximately two hours and the garage, vehicle and all contents were a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. There were no injuries reported while fighting the blaze.

Escanaba Public Safety was assisted by the Delta County Central Dispatch Center, Rampart EMS, Escanaba City Electric Department and the Delta County Sheriffs Department. Escanaba Department of Public Works also responded quickly to clear the roads and alleyway to remove slush and ice before conditions worsened due to the inclement weather and water runoff issues at the scene.
