Challengers oust Escanaba council members

ESCANABA — Voters Tuesday chose a new slate of faces to represent them on the Escanaba City Council.

According to numbers broadcast on the city’s cable channel Tuesday, the three open seats on the council were won by Mark Ammel, Todd Flath, and Ron Beauchamp. The trio ousted both Marc Tall and Ralph Blasier, who were the only two incumbent candidates seeking reelection to the council. Ammel received 1,491 votes (28%), Flath received 1,026 votes (19%), and Beauchamp received 940 votes (17%).

The remaining three candidates, Michael Sattem, Tall, and Blasier, received 835 votes (16%), 611 votes (11%), and 469 votes (9%), respectively.

Ammel, Flath and Beauchamp will serve four-year terms on the council.
