ESCANABA — Escanaba Public Safety responded to 2519 S. 22nd St. shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday for the report of a detached garage that was on fire. Officers arrived on scene and found that the fire was in the rear section of the garage.

A partition wall prevented fire spread and assisted officers in extinguishing the fire quickly once this area was accessed.

The neighbors of the garage owner observed smoke coming from the garage and quickly reported the fire while attempting to alert the owners. Due to the fire being detected at this early stage, a large portion of the garage and its contents were saved from fire and water damage.

The cause of the fire had not been determined by press time. No injuries were reported.
