Person killed in fall from cliff at Marquette park
MARQUETTE — A person was killed Monday after falling from a cliff at Presque Isle Park in Marquette, according to the Marquette Police Department.
At approximately 1:04 p.m., police were dispatched to the scene. The incident was witnessed by others in the area and was reported to Marquette Central Dispatch.
Police, fire, and paramedics responded. First responders attempted to rescue the victim, who was located in Lake Superior near the shoreline. The victim was unresponsive, and first responders attempted life-saving efforts. The victim was transported to Upper Peninsula Health System Hospital in Marquette, but pronounced dead.
The investigation is ongoing , but preliminary information suggests the victim fell while descending the cliff to take photographs.
The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of family.
Responding agencies include the Marquette City Police Department, Marquette City Fire Department, Marquette County Sheriffs Office, UPHS-Marquette EMS, and the United States Coast Guard.
The Marquette Police Department reminds visitors to Presque Isle Park to stay back from the cliffs, and to use caution around unprotected hazards in the park.
