Candidates announced for cities’ seats
ESCANABA — Residents of Escanaba and Gladstone will vote this November on who will represent them in city government.
In Escanaba, Mayor Marc Tall and Councilman Ralph Blasier are both seeking re-election to the council. Challengers vying for the open seats are Mark Ammel, Ron Beauchamp, Todd Flath and Michael Sattem.
In Gladstone, Mayor Joe Thompson and Commissioners Robert Pontius and Greg Styczynski are seeking re-election. Challengers for the seats are Jeff Diebolt, Diane Godfrey, Jason Leonard, Mike O’Connor and Steven Viau.
The Delta County League of Women Voters is currently updating its free-to-use online voter guide, which will be available online at www.vote411.org. Candidates have been sent questions, the answers to which will be published in the online guide closer to the election.
Candidate forums are also being planned by the League of Women Voters for early October. Dates, times and locations have not been finalized.
Information about absentee ballots or registering to vote can be found on the Michigan Secretary of State website www.michigan.gov/vote. The passage of the Promote the Vote ballot proposal in November 2018, allows Michigan voters to use a no reason absentee ballot to vote early, or up to 8 p.m. on Election Day. Voters may register to vote by mail or in person, including on Election Day.
