ESCANABA — People attending the U.P. State Fair next week will find new attractions when visiting the U.P. Steam and Gas Antique Village.

There is a new group at the U.P. Steam and Gas Antique Village featuring hand-crafting of textiles. They will be at the village Monday, August 16 through Sunday, August 22. Demonstrations and teaching about knitting, weaving, machine knitting and sewing will be featured. Village crafted items will also be available for purchase.

To get to the Antique Village from the midway, walk past the Miracle of Life building to the Agricultural Museum at the end of the road then turn right. A short walk will bring you to the village square. Village maps are available at the gazebo.

There village shops feature hand-crafted textiles:

Fabric Boutique: Hand-spun and dyed alpaca/wool blend yarns, along with knit and felted items can be found here. Spinning demonstrations will be given periodically during the day.

The Wooly Sock: The shop features hand-dyed wool from the producer, as well as village crafted hats, scarves and stuffed toys.

Textile Weavers: Weaving demonstrations will be given periodically during the day. Rag rugs, placemats, and mug rugs are featured.

Escanaba Knit & Stitch: There will be demonstrations on vintage flat and circular knitting machines, and vintage sewing machines. Refurbished machines, knitted mittens, slippers hats and scarves are featured.

The U.P. Steam and Gas Antique Village will also be open Labor Day weekend for a three-day show featuring Allis Chalmers and Case tractors.
