Delta County continues to lead U.P. in COVID cases
ESCANABA — Both state and local data Monday again showed Delta County leading the Upper Peninsula in the number of new confirmed COVID-19 positives.
Local health officials have added 31 new confirmed cases in Delta County since Friday, along with 26 new cases in Menominee County.
Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties also raised Menominee County’s probable case count by 12 and Delta County’s probables by four.
The PHDM website dated Monday had Delta County at 3,690 confirmed positives, 785 probable cases and 94 deaths. Menominee County has had 1,963 confirmed positives, 430 probables and 41 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.
On the state level, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Monday reported 134 new confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Upper Peninsula since Friday: 30 in Delta County, 25 in Marquette County, 20 in Menominee County, nine in Houghton and Chippewa counties, eight in Gogebic County, seven in Dickinson and Baraga counties, six in Mackinac County, five in Iron County, four in Schoolcraft County and two each in Ontonagon and Alger counties.
Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Monday has had 21,421 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 449 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Monday had Keweenaw County at 150 confirmed cases and 33 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 235 confirmed cases and 266 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 349 confirmed, 208 probable and three deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 387 confirmed cases and 98 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 461 confirmed, 61 probable and 21 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 523 confirmed cases and 273 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 743 confirmed cases, 131 probable and 40 deaths; Iron County, 1,053 confirmed cases and 79 probable, 43 deaths and 10 probable; Gogebic County, 1,156 confirmed cases and 370 probable, 24 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,185 confirmed cases and 1,501 probable, and 29 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 1,950 confirmed cases, 426 probable and 42 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,491 confirmed cases and 434 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,673 confirmed cases, 630 probable, 36 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,679 confirmed cases and 777 probable, 76 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,386 confirmed cases, 878 probable and 64 deaths, one probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Monday had 5,020 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan since Friday, or an average of about 1,673 per day for the three days, for a total to date of 946,698. The state Monday added 27 deaths attributed to the virus — including six that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 20,257.
The state now provides updated COVID-19 figures on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
