Two new virus deaths in Delta

ESCANABA — Local health officials Monday reported two new coronavirus-related deaths in Delta County and 11 more confirmed COVID-19 positives since Friday, while Menominee County had only two new cases.

The Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website update Monday also added one probable positive in Delta County and reduced Menominee County’s probables by one.

As of Monday, Delta County has had 3,326 confirmed positives, 677 probable cases and 92 deaths, according to PHDMC. Menominee County had 1,783 confirmed, 324 probable and 40 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.

State data Monday had four new confirmed positives in Delta County since its last update Saturday, and two new cases in both Menominee and Schoolcraft counties.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Monday added 25 new confirmed positives for the two-day period: four in Delta and Marquette counties; two in Menominee, Schoolcraft, Dickinson, Luce,Mackinac and Baraga counties; and one each in Iron, Chippewa, Gogebic, Ontonagon and Houghton counties. The state’s figures did not show any new deaths in the region.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Monday has had 19,760 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 423 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Monday had Keweenaw County at 143 confirmed cases and 33 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 202 confirmed cases and 228 probable, two confirmed death and one probable death; Alger County, 320 confirmed, 192 probable and two deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 331 confirmed cases and 79 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 408 confirmed, 56 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 436 confirmed cases and 242 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 651 confirmed cases, 123 probable and 37 deaths; Iron County, 974 confirmed cases and 67 probable, 42 deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 1,032 confirmed cases and 362 probable, 22 deaths and 28 probable; Chippewa County, 1,065 confirmed cases and 1,384 probable, and 28 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 1,780 confirmed cases, 322 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,384 confirmed cases and 331 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,497 confirmed cases, 605 probable, 32 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,316 confirmed cases and 672 probable, 72 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,221 confirmed cases, 808 probable and 60 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Monday posted 2,230 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan since Saturday for a total to date of 876,854. The state Monday had 20 deaths attributed to the virus for the two-day period to reach 18,627.
