New COVID-19 cases take significant drop locally

ESCANABA — Data from local health officials Wednesday showed only two more confirmed COVID-19 positives in Delta County and no new cases in Menominee County.

The Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website update Wednesday also reduced Delta County’s probable cases by one and listed three new probables in Menominee County. Neither county recorded a new death.

As of Wednesday, Delta County has had 3,295 confirmed positives, 675 probable cases and 90 deaths, according to PHDMC. Menominee County had 1,776 confirmed, 323 probable and 40 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.

State data Wednesday had seven new confirmed positives in Menominee County, two in Delta County and one in Schoolcraft County. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Wednesday added 44 new confirmed positives: seven in Menominee and Marquette counties; six in Gogebic County; five in Iron and Mackinac counties; four in Baraga County; three in Ontonagon County; two in Delta and Dickinson counties; and one each in Schoolcraft, Luce and Keweenaw counties. Marquette and Baraga counties each had a new death.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 19,618 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 420 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 143 confirmed cases and 31 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 193 confirmed cases and 221 probable, one confirmed death and one probable death; Alger County, 319 confirmed, 191 probable and two deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 324 confirmed cases and 72 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 404 confirmed, 56 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 420 confirmed cases and 237 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 635 confirmed cases, 122 probable and 37 deaths; Iron County, 968 confirmed cases and 67 probable, 42 deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 1,024 confirmed cases and 360 probable, 22 deaths and 28 probable; Chippewa County, 1,057 confirmed cases and 1,380 probable, and 28 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 1,773 confirmed cases, 321 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,377 confirmed cases and 328 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,484 confirmed cases, 603 probable, 32 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,288 confirmed cases and 670 probable, 72 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,209 confirmed cases, 799 probable and 58 deaths, one probable.

The MDHHS on Wednesday posted 2,171 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total to date of 869,512. The state Wednesday had 17 deaths attributed to the virus to reach 18,355.
