Increases in new COVID-19 cases remain small locally
ESCANABA — State data Thursday had three new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Schoolcraft County and two each in Delta and Menominee counties.
For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Thursday added 27 new confirmed positives: seven in Houghton County; three in Schoolcraft, Marquette and Luce counties; two in Delta, Menominee, Mackinac and Chippewa counties; and one each in Iron, Baraga and Gogebic counties. Houghton County had the region’s only new coronavirus-related death.
Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Thursday has had 19,849 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 427 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Thursday had Keweenaw County at 143 confirmed cases and 32 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 209 confirmed cases and 241 probable, two confirmed death and one probable death; Alger County, 321 confirmed, 192 probable and two deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 338 confirmed cases and 78 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 409 confirmed, 58 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 444 confirmed cases and 250 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 661 confirmed cases, 122 probable and 37 deaths; Iron County, 979 confirmed cases and 68 probable, 42 deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 1,034 confirmed cases and 362 probable, 22
deaths and 28 probable; Chippewa County, 1,070 confirmed cases and 1,388 probable, and 28 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 1,782 confirmed cases, 323 probable and 40 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,388 confirmed cases and 333 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,509 confirmed cases, 606 probable, 33 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,328 confirmed cases and 675 probable, 74 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,234 confirmed cases, 812 probable and 60 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Thursday posted 1,372 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total to date of 881,057. The state Thursday had 74 deaths attributed to the virus — including 61 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 18,815.
