Chamber, OSF to host ’20s-themed ‘non-event’

ESCANABA — The Delta County Chamber of Commerce has announced a “Roaring ’20s Non-event” presented by OSF HealthCare will replace the Roaring ’20s Gala planned for May 22 at the Island Resort and Casino.

The Chamber of Commerce Special Events Committee decided to transition to the “non-event” due in part to the recent spike in COVID-19 cases and a concern for the health and safety of the community.

The Roaring ’20s Non-event is a fundraising campaign that encourages anyone to buy a ticket to an evening at home or your favorite Chamber member gathering place. Individuals can to purchase a ticket and a delivered 1920s-themed heat-and-serve meal created by Wiles Food Service, featuring shrimp cocktail, salad, bourbon beef tips, and tuxedo seven-layer torte. Meals will be delivered on Friday, May 21. Participating businesses will be recognized for their contributions in advertising and promotional materials before, during, and after the Non-event.

“So, when the flyer reads, ‘You are cordially invited to NOT attend our Roaring 20’s Non-event,’ please understand that there is no in-person event being held,” a press release issued by the Chamber read,

Each ticket holder will be entered into the grand prize drawing for $1,000. If the ticket sales goal is not met, the grand prize will be a 50/50 drawing.

“This Non-event is a great opportunity to celebrate the Delta County Chamber of Commerce centennial by donating the cost of the time and money an attendee would have spent coming to an in-person event. After a challenging fiscal year due to Covid-19, the Chamber hopes to funnel as much money as possible into its mission of supporting the community and area businesses by offering guidance, promotion, events, and much more,” said the Chamber.

To participate in the non-event, fill out the donation form online at www.deltami.org or pick up a physical form at the Delta County Chamber of Commerce, located at 1001 N Lincoln Road in Escanaba.
