State: 53 new virus cases in U.P.
ESCANABA — State COVID-19 data Wednesday had Delta County with eight new confirmed positives and Menominee and Schoolcraft counties each with one.
Marquette County’s total of confirmed cases jumped by 21 on Wednesday to lead the Upper Peninsula.
For the U.P., the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Wednesday listed 53 new confirmed cases: the 21 in Marquette County; eight in both Delta and Houghton counties; five in Mackinac County; three in Chippewa County; two in Iron County; and one each in Menominee, Schoolcraft, Alger, Gogebic, Ontonagon and Baraga counties. No new deaths were reported.
Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 17,582 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 400 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 125 confirmed cases and 31 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 147 confirmed cases and 137 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 269 confirmed cases and 50 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County,
293 confirmed, 169 probable and one death, four probable; Mackinac County, 332 confirmed cases and 184 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 378 confirmed, 56 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 521 confirmed cases, 108 probable and 33 deaths; Iron County, 888 confirmed cases and 63 probable, 42 deaths and nine probable; Chippewa County, 898 confirmed cases and 1,227 probable, and 25 deaths, five probable; Gogebic County, 975 confirmed cases and 357 probable, 22 deaths and 28 probable; Menominee County, 1,664 confirmed cases, 286 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,214 confirmed cases and 272 probable, 55 deaths and 16 probable; Houghton County, 2,316 confirmed cases, 568 probable, 32 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 2,852 confirmed cases and 534 probable, 68 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,710 confirmed cases, 670 probable and 55 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Wednesday posted 8,015 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total of 715,478. The state added 30 new deaths to reach 16,327.
