Marquette, Delta still lead in virus cases

ESCANABA — State COVID-19 data Saturday showed 19 more confirmed positives in Delta County and one in Menominee County.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Saturday listed 88 new confirmed cases: 25 in Marquette County; 19 in Delta County; 14 in Dickinson County; 10 in Houghton County; five in Chippewa County; four in Mackinac County; three in Iron and Keweenaw counties; two in Ontonagon County; and one each in Menominee, Alger and Luce counties. The only new death came in Chippewa County.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Saturday has had 17,859 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 401 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Saturday had Keweenaw County at 131 confirmed cases and 32 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 150 confirmed cases and 147 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 272 confirmed cases and 50 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 295 confirmed, 174 probable and one death, four probable; Mackinac County, 347 confirmed cases and 201 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 380 confirmed, 56 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 524 confirmed cases, 110 probable and 33 deaths; Iron County, 893 confirmed cases and 62 probable, 42 deaths and nine probable; Chippewa County, 918 confirmed cases and 1,252 probable, and 26 deaths, five probable; Gogebic County, 982 confirmed cases and 357 probable, 22 deaths and 28 probable; Menominee County, 1,674 confirmed cases, 292 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,247 confirmed cases and 278 probable, 55 deaths and 16 probable; Houghton County, 2,341 confirmed cases, 568 probable, 32 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 2,913 confirmed cases and 540 probable, 68 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,792 confirmed cases, 699 probable and 55 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Saturday posted 6,892 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total of 738,023. The state added 74 new deaths — including 57 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 16,500.
