Delta adds 36 new virus cases

ESCANABA — Delta County has gained 36 more confirmed COVID-19 positives since Friday and Menominee County seven new cases, data from local health officials showed.

The Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website update Monday also listed a new death and 28 probable cases in Delta County. Menominee County had another two probable cases.

As of Monday, Delta County has had 3,161 confirmed positives, 618 probable and 87 deaths, according to PHDMC. Menominee County had 1,730 confirmed cases, 311 probable and 39 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.

State data Monday added 21 more confirmed COVID-19 positives in Delta County — the highest jump in the Upper Peninsula — plus six new cases in Menominee County since its last update Saturday.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Monday showed 73 new confirmed positives since Saturday: the 21 in Delta County; 10 in Marquette County; seven in Houghton and Baraga counties; six in Menominee County; five in Dickinson and Mackinac counties; three in Iron, Chippewa and Gogebic counties; and one each in Alger, Ontonagon and Keweenaw counties. Luce County had its first confirmed death, which if it holds means every county in Michigan now has recorded a fatal COVID-19 case.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Monday has had 18,865 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 407 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Monday had Keweenaw County at 139 confirmed cases and 31 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 172 confirmed cases and 172 probable, one confirmed death and one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 288 confirmed cases and 56 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 307 confirmed, 185 probable and two deaths, four probable; Mackinac County, 384 confirmed cases and 220 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 396 confirmed, 56 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 554 confirmed cases, 112 probable and 33 deaths; Iron County, 923 confirmed cases and 65 probable, 42 deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 1,000 confirmed cases and 360 probable, 22 deaths and 28 probable; Chippewa County, 1,011 confirmed cases and 1,328 probable, and 27 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 1,727 confirmed cases, 308 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,340 confirmed cases and 311 probable, 57 deaths and 16 probable; Houghton County, 2,423 confirmed cases, 597 probable, 32 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,149 confirmed cases and 610 probable, 68 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,052 confirmed cases, 776 probable and 56 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Monday posted 6,524 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan since Saturday for a total to date of 825,844. The state Monday recorded 35 deaths attributed to the virus over the two-day period to reach 17,324.
