U.P. tops 17K cases of virus
ESCANABA — State COVID-19 data Friday showed six new confirmed coronavirus positives in Delta County and two each in Menominee and Schoolcraft counties, as the Upper Peninsula tops 17,000 cases.
For the U.P., the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Friday listed a total of 53 new confirmed positives: 18 in Chippewa County; 12 in Marquette County; six in Delta and Dickinson County; two in Menominee, Schoolcraft, Houghton and Mackinac counties; and one each in Iron, Keweenaw and Baraga counties.
Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 17,041 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 397 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Friday had Keweenaw County at 125 confirmed cases and 30 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 135 confirmed cases and 112 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 242 confirmed cases and 38 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 284 confirmed, 160 probable and one death, four probable; Mackinac County, 310 confirmed cases and 168 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 374 confirmed, 57 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 517 confirmed cases, 106 probable and 33 deaths; Chippewa County, 827 confirmed cases and 1,125 probable, and 25 deaths, five probable; Iron County, 872 confirmed cases and 61 probable, 42 confirmed deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 962 confirmed cases and 354 probable, 21 confirmed deaths and 28 probable; Menominee County, 1,646 confirmed cases, 275 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,174 confirmed cases and 250 probable, 55 confirmed deaths and 16 probable; Houghton County, 2,249 confirmed cases, 552 probable, 31 confirmed deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 2,750 confirmed cases and 506 probable, 67 confirmed deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,574 confirmed cases, 590 probable and 55 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Friday posted 5,030 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total of 647,899. The state added 20 new deaths Friday to reach 16,004.
