COVID-19 cases slow locally

ESCANABA — State health data Friday showed only two new confirmed COVID-19 cases in both Delta and Menominee counties.

The Upper Peninsula as a region added 28 new confirmed COVID-19 positives Friday, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

The MDHHS’ COVID-19 data site Friday listed eight new cases in Houghton County; seven in Gogebic County; three in Marquette County; two each in Delta, Menominee, Mackinac and Chippewa counties; and one each in Keweenaw and Alger counties.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 16,498 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 386 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Friday had Keweenaw County at 116 confirmed cases and 29 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 132 confirmed cases and 98 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 230 confirmed cases and 28 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 279 confirmed, 157 probable and one death, four probable; Mackinac County, 294 confirmed cases and 153 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 359 confirmed, 54 probable and 19 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 507 confirmed cases, 99 probable and 32 deaths; Chippewa County, 731 confirmed cases and 1,041 probable, and 23 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 866 confirmed cases and 62 probable, 40 confirmed deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 943 confirmed cases and 345 probable, 20 confirmed deaths and 28 probable; Menominee County, 1,619 confirmed cases, 263 probable and 36 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,133 confirmed cases and 240 probable, 55 confirmed deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,147 confirmed cases, 538 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 2,673 confirmed cases and 483 probable, 65 confirmed deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,469 confirmed cases, 506 probable and 55 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Friday posted 1,486 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total of 594,765. The state added 10 new deaths Friday to reach 15,610.
