U.P. virus cases exceed 15,000 mark

ESCANABA — As of Monday, the U.P. had 15,023 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 3,559 probable cases, 337 deaths and 77 probable deaths linked to the disease, according to state officials.

The figure does not include prisoners in the Michigan Department of Corrections.

According to the state’s county-by-county count issued Monday, Delta County had a total of 2,550 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 427 probable cases, 60 deaths and 18 probable deaths; Menominee County had 1,533 confirmed cases, 236 probable cases, 30 deaths and two probable deaths; Schoolcraft County had 223 confirmed cases, 21 probable cases, three deaths and one probable death.

Elsewhere in the peninsula, Alger County had 211 confirmed cases, 137 probable cases, two deaths and 29 probable deaths; Baraga County had 467 confirmed cases, 88 probable cases and 29 deaths; Chippewa County had 652 confirmed cases, 945 probable cases, 13 deaths and two probable deaths; Dickinson County had 2,048 confirmed cases, 203 probable cases, 56 deaths and 14 probable deaths; Gogebic County had 745 confirmed cases, 302 probable cases, 16 deaths and 23 probable deaths; Houghton County had 1,755 confirmed cases, 439 probable cases, 27 deaths and seven probable deaths; Iron County had 799 confirmed cases, 68 probable cases, 32 deaths and five probable deaths; Keweenaw County had 83 confirmed cases, 16 probable cases, one death and one probable death; Luce County had 127 confirmed cases and 69 probable cases; Mackinac County had 269 confirmed cases, 128 probable cases and three deaths; Marquette County had 3,270 confirmed cases, 450 probable cases, 51 deaths and one probable death; and Ontonagon County had 282 confirmed cases, 30 probable cases, 15 deaths and one probable death.
