Christmas in the Village goes virtual

Daily Press file photo Santa Claus is shown at a past Christmas in the Village in this file photo. Because Christmas in the Village was canceled this year due to the pandemic, the U.P. Steam and Gas Engine Association has planned an alternative way to celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season. On Dec. 4 and 5, guests will be able to see a portion of the village decorated with lights during a drive-though event from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be no driving in the Antique Village itself. Instead, guests will drive in through the Chamber of Commerce Center parking lot, located on the east side of the village, and make a loop to see the lights and decorations. At the end of the loop, canned goods will be collected to support area food pantries and agencies. Anyone viewing the lights is asked to bring a canned goods donation.

ESCANABA — Because Christmas in the Village was canceled this year due to the pandemic, the U.P. Steam and Gas Engine Association has planned an alternative way to celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season. The group will hold a virtual Christmas in the village on Facebook from 10 a.m. ,to 4 p.m. on Friday, December 4, and Saturday, December 5. The group will share photos from its archives as well as musical performances, free downloadable coloring sheets and puzzle pages for the kids, and a special contribution from Santa and Mrs. Claus. All material will also be available on our website beginning Monday, December 7.

Additionally, the Association will hold a “drive by” event from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 4, and Saturday, December 5. The portion of Antique Village visible from the new Chamber of Commerce building parking lot will be decorated with lights, and the group will be collecting non-perishable items for the annual Holiday Food Drive. All donations go to a local food pantry and help feed people in the Escanaba area.
