Infections hit 2K in Delta, 1K in Menominee

ESCANABA — Both Delta and Menominee Counties passed grim milestones Friday, when Delta County passed 2,000 COVID-19 infections and Menominee County passed 1,000.

As of Friday, the U.P. had 10,464 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 1,736 probable cases, 178 deaths and 30 probable deaths linked to the disease, according to state officials.

The figure does not include prisoners in the Michigan Department of Corrections.

According to the state’s county-by-county count issued Friday, Delta County had a total of 2,031 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 230 probable cases, 47 deaths and nine probable deaths; Menominee County had 1,041 confirmed cases, 110 probable cases, 12 deaths and zero probable deaths; Schoolcraft County had 154 confirmed cases, nine probable cases, one death and one probable death.

Elsewhere in the peninsula, Alger County had 139 confirmed cases, 61 probable cases, one death and one probable death; Baraga County had 333 confirmed cases, 52 probable cases, five deaths and zero probable deaths; Chippewa County had 282 confirmed cases, 355 probable cases, two deaths and one probable death; Dickinson County had 1,405 confirmed cases, 70 probable cases, 28 deaths and two probable deaths; Gogebic County had 504 confirmed cases, 185 probable cases, 10 deaths and 10 probable deaths; Houghton County had 1,167 confirmed cases, 244 probable cases, nine deaths and two probable deaths; Iron County had 623 confirmed cases, 36 probable cases, 27 deaths and four probable deaths; Keweenaw County had 50 confirmed cases, 10 probable cases, one death and zero probable deaths; Luce County had 110 confirmed cases, 43 probable cases, zero deaths and zero probable deaths; Mackinac County had 190 confirmed cases, 49 probable cases, zero deaths and zero probable deaths; Marquette County had 2,206 confirmed cases, 257 probable cases, 25 deaths and zero probable deaths; and Ontonagon County had 229 confirmed cases, 25 probable cases, 10 deaths and zero probable deaths.

The state does not include infections or deaths within the Michigan Department of Corrections system in county-by-county counts, however, as of Thursday, the MDOC had 11,233 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 77 deaths statewide according to state officials. Of those cases, 4,010 were active infections.

In the U.P., Alger Correctional Facility has had 96 confirmed cases, 66 of which are currently active infections; Baraga Correctional Facility has had eight confirmed cases, with two active infections; Chippewa Correctional Facility has had 162 confirmed cases, 88 of which were active; Kinross Correctional Facility has had 776 confirmed cases, 775 of which are active; Marquette Correctional Facility has had 845 confirmed case, 79 of which are active; and Newberry Facility has had 714 confirmed cases, 353 of which are active.
