Veterans Service Office getting new home

ESCANABA — Efforts to relocate Delta County’s veterans service office are nearly finished, according to Delta County Veterans Service Officer David Dziewior. The new office will be located at the Delta County Service Center.

This work is being supported by a $71,000 grant.

“We were approved for the grant back in March from the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency,” Dziewior said.

Dziewior said the office received the grant funding in April.

“That grant package went towards office relocation and expansion … so we could enhance and increase our service to the county veterans,” he said.

The new office will be considerably larger than the office it will replace. Currently, the veterans service office is located in a single room at the Delta County Airport.

“This new one is going to have a reception area for veterans, as well as two offices for veterans service officers,” Dziewior said.

At some point in the future, Dziewior said Delta County may try to make use of the additional space by hiring a second veterans service officer and an administrative assistant. However, no timeline has been set for this.

For the most part, preparatory work on the new office space is finished.

“They’re still putting in the computer network lines,” Dziewior said.

When this is done — which Dziewior said should happen in the “near future” — the office will be able to move to its new location. Once the move is completed, people with business at the veterans service office will be able to find it by entering the door currently used for the MSU Extension office at the service center.

Starting at $3.50/week.
