Probe of Delta County puppy mill continues
MAPLE RIDGE TOWNSHIP — The Delta County Prosecutor’s Office has been involved with an ongoing police investigation into a Maple Ridge Township puppy mill, officials said Thursday. Criminal charges may be filed at a later date.
On Monday, Aug. 24, the prosecutor’s office assisted in preparing a search warrant that led to the search of a dwelling, outbuildings and property at a residence in Maple Ridge Township by the Michigan State Police Gladstone Post. As a result of the search, 134 dogs were seized.
The same day, the prosecutor’s office also prepared a second search warrant for the Michigan State Police for the property. During that search, police seized 20 horses. All animals seized by police were taken into the care of the Delta Animal Shelter.
Along with the Delta Animal Shelter and local veterinarians, the Michigan State Police is currently conducting a full investigation into the living conditions of animals at the puppy mill. The prosecutor’s office is actively involved and is assisting the investigation as it goes forward.
