ESCANABA — The Catherine Bonifas Civic Center received an ATC grant for its After School Program. The grant award is intended to help youth during the summer. The civic center will be providing bags of snacks, hygiene items and school supplies to youth that are registered at the Catherine Bonifas Civic Center. Bags will be handed out at the civic center on Wednesday, July 15, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and again on Thursday, July 16, from 12 to 3 p.m.

The After School Program targets youth in fourthth through 12th grades throughout the school year. Students are provided hygiene items, snacks and school supplies. Currently there are 399 youth registered at the facility. The civic center is open to youth from September to May and is a supervised environment. The youth also have access to laptops, free wi-fi, gameroom, gym, boardgames and books. There is no cost to youth to participate and anyone in fourth to 12th grades are welcome.

“We truly appreciate ATC committing funds to pandemic-related relief causes and this allows us to provide items to the youth in the community,” said Recreation Director Kim Peterson.
