Utility scams hit Escanaba residents

ESCANABA — Two scams targeting utility customers have been making the rounds in Delta and Menominee counties.

The city of Escanaba has been made aware of a potential phone scam involving the shutting off of utilities. The Escanaba Public Safety Department would like residents to know that any shut-off notices are brought to residences by an Escanaba City employee, sent through the mail, or both. The city never asks for payment over the phone.

The public safety department encourages residents never to provide personal information to unknown sources. If residents have questions about shut-off notices, they are encouraged to call the city utilities office at 906-786-0552.
