HUDSON TOWNSHIP -- A fatal snowmobile accident in Hudson Township of Mackinac County is under investigation, according to authorities.
Mackinac County Sheriff's deputies were called to a fatal single snowmobile accident located near the shore of Lake Michigan, around 1/4 mile west of Borgstrom Road and south of Hwy. US 2 in Hudson Township at around 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1.
Norman James Bass, 77, of Goodrich, Mich., was driving an unfamiliar snowmobile when he missed a turn and struck a tree.
Police said the unfamiliarity of the snowmobile may have been a contributing factor in the crash.
Bass was transported to Helen Newberry Joy Hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Alcohol and speed are not considered to be contributing factors to the cause of the crash, police said.
