Driver arraigned after serious auto accident

FORD RIVER — A Gladstone man arrested after a two-vehicle accident in Ford River that left an Escanaba man in critical condition in November was arraigned on a drunk driving charge.

Ricky McCarty, 38, of Gladstone was arraigned on one count of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury, a five-year felony with a maximum fine of $5,000.

On Nov. 8, troopers from the Gladstone Post were dispatched to a crash involving two vehicles on M-69 near 14th Road in Ford River Township. Investigation at the scene revealed the driver of the pickup truck was southbound on M-69, crossed the centerline, and crashed head-on with a northbound vehicle.

The driver of the pickup was later identified as McCarty and the sedan was operated by a 51-year-old Escanaba man. The Escanaba man was in critical condition and was airlifted by Valley Med to Marquette. An update on the man’s condition was unavailable.

McCarty was treated at OSF St. Francis hospital for minor injuries before being released and lodged at the Delta County Jail.

McCarty’s bond was set at $25,000 cash/surety.
