Crash in Wells Township sends one to hospital

WELLS TOWNSHIP — A two vehicle accident at the intersection of US 2 and 41 and County 426 M.5 Road in Wells Township left one person in critical condition Monday.

Delta County Sheriff’s Department deputies were called to the two vehicle accident at the intersection of US 2 and 41 and County 426 M.5 Road at around 2:45 p.m. Monday.

According to officers, a vehicle driven by Trisha Heider, 33, of Gladstone, pulled off of County 426 M.5 Road onto US 2 and 41. The vehicle was struck by a southbound vehicle driven by Jason Sanford, 34, of Bark River.

Heider had to be extricated from the vehicle with the Jaws of Life.

Police said Heider was air lifted to UP Health Systems in Marquette by Valley Med. As of Tuesday, she was listed as being in critical condition. The sheriff’s department wasn’t able to comment on her current status before press time Thursday.

The accident remains under investigation. Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police, Escanaba Public Safety Department, Rampart, Valley Med Flight, Gene’s Towing and Delta County Central Dispatch.
