ESCANABA — In an Escanaba resident’s front yard, a pair of legendary creatures are welcoming the arrival of winter.

As of Thursday, Dec. 12, Brett LaFave had two handmade figures set up outside his house on the 600 block of S. 14th St. — a Yeti and a Sasquatch. LaFave’s Sasquatch figure was created in 2018, while his Yeti figure is new for this year.

Both figures were originally made for LaFave’s annual Halloween display.

“They stayed up since Halloween,” LaFave said.

According to LaFave, he hopes his decorations will raise public awareness of these creatures.

“I’m a big enthusiast, and I believe in them,” he said, noting he has been attending an annual Bigfoot convention in the Marinette/Menominee area in recent years.

LaFave has been working to get his figures ready for the holidays, as well. To this end, he put a Santa hat on his Yeti figure recently.

“I’m going to try to get antlers on the other guy,” he said.

He may also put other seasonally-appropriate figures he has made — including the Grinch and Jack Skellington — back on display.

“Some of these guys can be coming out for Christmas,” LaFave said.

Starting at $3.50/week.
