Drowning victim found at marina

ESCANABA — A 55-year-old man was found dead floating in the water just off shore of the Harbor Master building in Escanaba Thursday. His death was an apparent accidental drowning, according to authorities.

Escanaba Public Safety Department officers were called out to the Escanaba Harbor near Water Plant Road Thursday at around 1:30 p.m.

Officers located Anthony McCullough, 55, of the Hannahville Tribal Community, floating face down just off shore east of the Harbor Master Building.

McCullough was pulled ashore and pronounced dead on scene.

Rampart EMS transported him to OSF St. Francis Hospital until family could be notified.

According to Escanaba Public Safety, McCullough appears to have died from accidentally drowning. However, officers said the investigation to determine when McCullough was last seen alive continues.

Foul play is not suspected.

No other information pertaining to the investigation is being released at this time.

The Escanaba Public Safety Department was assisted by the Delta County Sheriff’s Office, Rampart EMS, and Delta County Central Dispatch.
