Accident sends one to hospital, another to jail

FORD RIVER — An Escanaba man is in critical condition after a two-vehicle accident Friday in Ford River.

At 9:46 a.m., troopers from the Gladstone Post were dispatched to a crash involving two vehicles on M-69 near 14th Road in Ford River Township. Investigation at the scene revealed the driver of a pickup truck was southbound on M-69, crossed the centerline, and crashed head-on with a northbound vehicle. The driver of the pickup was a 38-year-old Gladstone man and the sedan was operated by a 51-year-old Escanaba man.

Valley Med airlifted the Escanaba man to Marquette where he remains in critical condition. The Gladstone man was treated at OSF St. Francis hospital for minor injuries before being released and lodged at the Delta County Jail.

The investigation continues into the factors involved in the accident. Alcohol and drugs are suspected be a factor.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by Hannahville Police, DNR officers, MSP Motor Carrier, Rampart, Valley Med, and local first responders.
