House fire claims life in Menominee County

INGALLSTON TOWNSHIP — An Ingallston Township man died in a structure fire Tuesday.

At about 3:12 p.m., Menominee County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a report of a structure fire in Ingallston Township. The homeowner was believed to still be inside the residence at the time of the fire. An investigator and deputy arrived at the scene and observed the house had flames in its basement and was completely overcome by smoke.

Menominee-Ingallston Township Fire Department fought the fire with mutual aid from Mellen Township Fire Department. The firefighters entered the residence and found a male victim inside. The victim was transported to Aurora Medical Center Bay Area; there, he was pronounced dead.

Menominee County Sheriff’s office and the fire departments were assisted by Aurora Medical Center Bay Area paramedics, a Michigan State Police fire inspector and accelerant detection canine, WPS, Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
