Two seek seat on Bay College Board

ESCANABA — Two candidates for a vacant seat on the Bay College Board of Trustees will be interviewed today at 4 p.m.

Last month, the board announced the resignation of Philip Strom, effective Aug. 30. Strom, who was a member of the board for eight years, left to accept a position as deputy city attorney for the City of Grand Rapids.

Applications for Strom’s unexpired term on the board were accepted through Sept. 4. Bay College President Laura Coleman said the Bay College Board of Trustees reviewed its list of applicants during a special meeting Friday.

“They just looked at the candidates and decided on a few they’re going to interview,” she said.

The candidates who will be interviewed this afternoon are Gordon Fitch of Escanaba and David Anthony of Bark River. Coleman said a final decision on the filling of Strom’s former term on the board is unlikely to be made today.

“There will be no decision made until the board meeting,” she said.

The Bay College Board of Trustees’ next regular meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 18.

As Stroms former term will expire on Dec. 31, 2020, the person appointed to fill this term would have to run for election in November 2020 in order to continue serving on the board.
